AUSTIN DOG PARKS

The Austin area has several great dog parks.  Some of them are hiking trails, some are fenced-in designated dog parks, while others are larger multi-use parks that are simply zoned leash-free areas. While there are a few other off-leash parks in the area, we recommend these particular parks and have complied a list of features on each.  Make sure to check out this article on Dog Park Etiquette. Remember – it’s important to have off leash control of your dog when visiting the Austin area dog parks, even if they are fenced in.  Enjoy!

Here is the list of some great dog parks in Austin

AUDITORIUM SHORES  920 W. RIVERSIDE DR.  AUSTIN TX 78704
This is our favorite park!  The park is large enough that everyone can spread out and run their dogs while enjoying the view of the Austin skyline.  Dogs can swim and cool off in Town Lake, which is directly next to the jogging and bike trail.  This is a great park to spend the day with your dogs, friends and family.

EMMA LONG METROPOLITAN PARK 1600 CITY PARK RD. AUSTIN TX 78730
Also called Turkey Creek, this is a great area to take your dog if you enjoy hiking.  While there is not a large open area for the dogs to run and play, it is a fantastic hiking trail that crosses a small stream in several places.  The trail is about 3.5 miles long, and is in the heart of the wooded Hill Country.

RED BUD ISLE 3401 RED BUD TRAIL AUSTIN TX 78746
This is another one of our favorite parks.  Red Bud has relatively small open running areas, however it has a very wide walking path that follows the along the water.  This is a great park if your dogs loves to swim or jog with you.

ZILKER PARK 2100 BARTON SPRINGS RD. AUSTIN TX 78746
The soccer field section of Zilker Park is zoned for leash-free activities.  The open areas are huge, and great for playing ball or frisbee with your dog.  There are just a few trees that provide shade for you and your dog, and the park offers restroom facilities.  The park is often closed for large events and concerts, and charges a small parking fee for holidays and weekends.

WALNUT CREEK DISTRICT PARK 12138 N. LAMAR BLVD. AUSTIN TX 78753
This is another great park.  The off-leash section of the park is composed of long, winding trails that crosses the water in a few sections.  The path is often frequented by joggers and mountain bikers.  Walnut Creek is a great park for you to get some exercise with your dog.

CEDAR BARK PARK 2525 W. NEW HOPE DRIVE CEDAR PARK TX 78613
The 5 acre dog park offers plenty of room for the dogs to spread out and run and also includes a pier that leads to a dog only pond – how cool is that?!  This dog park is fenced and has separate areas for large and small dogs and also includes a doggie shower and drinking bowls as well.

GEORGETOWN BARK PARK 151 HOLLY STREET GEORGETOWN TX 78626

For those living a bit north of the Austin area, this park should be perfect for you.  The Bark Park is entirely fenced in, has a separate small dog section and is quite large for this type of park.  The park is filled with large pecan trees that offer great shade and a beautiful setting.  There are several built in benches, as well as a watering station for the dogs.

There are few pros and cons as well.
